The article analyzes the latest history textbooks that appeared in the Russian Federation at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year and which teach history to Ukrainian schoolchildren in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Historical narratives created by the Russian propaganda machine are broadcast through school textbooks and used to destroy Ukrainian national identity. Identity deconstruction is seen as an attack on the mental health of schoolchildren, which is classified by international human rights organizations as a crime against humanity. Specific measures are proposed to carry out “cognitive de-occupation”, to overcome the consequences of indoctrination and militarization of the youth.

Beyond disinformation, our study underscores the broader impact of deepfakes. The technology’s ability to blend real and fake content creates convincing videos, causing skepticism, confusion, and even the mistrust of authentic footage. Notably, the Zelensky video falsely claiming the war’s end exemplifies how deepfakes can spread misleading messages from seemingly reliable sources. However, our research also recognizes the dual nature of AI-generated content. As society grapples with the challenges posed by synthetic media, cultivating critical thinking and a discerning approach to information becomes crucial in navigating the complexities of the digital age.

While martial law has been introduced in Ukraine since February 24th, 2022, more than twenty laws amending the Criminal code of Ukraine have been adopted. However, certain legislative initiatives in this field, particularly concerning issues of criminal legal protection of the basics of national security, are insufficiently substantiated and poorly formulated. Namely, the draft law Reg. No. 9223 dated from April 19th, 2023, aims to protect Ukraine’s national security and national interests in the information sphere. But analysis of its text reveals its questionable compliance with the Constitution of Ukraine and inconsistencies with the current Criminal Code of Ukraine, including possible arbitrary interpretation, corruption risks, incorrect wording of the criminal offences’ dispositions etc.

On March 31, 2023, the Law of Ukraine “On Media” No. 2849-IX entered into force. Its approval is one of the criteria necessary for the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership of the European Union, the European Commission recommended that our country “combat the influence of private interests by adopting a law on the media industry, which brings Ukrainian legislation into line with the EU Directive on audiovisual media services and empowers an independent media regulator.” At the same time, the large-scale invasion of Russia, which is accompanied by a powerful information war, propaganda and disinformation on the part of the aggressor, contributed to the adoption of the law “On Media” to no small extent. And only then – its inclusion in the list of requirements of the European Union in connection with Ukraine receiving candidate status. The European integration path is important and necessary for Ukraine, but modern security challenges, including in the information sphere, are now a matter of the survival of the state and our final victory in the war.

The article deals with the spectrum of the main problems related to the information security of modern media communication. There are two main areas of information security research: “protection of information from a person” (cyber threats, technological risks) and “protection of a person from information” (manipulative practices, cognitive distortions, the “post-truth” phenomenon). In this regard, the concept of information culture as the foundation of information security, as well as information ethics, is analyzed. The latter shows the inefficiency of the so-called “netiquette”; in the concept of information culture, three main aspects are distinguished: technological, cognitive and value-ideological. It is noted that the analysis of the first and second aspects dominates in research, while in practice it is the latter that plays the main role. Therefore, the formation of the information culture depends on the cultural level of a particular society and the world community as a whole; the latter, according to the author, implies a genuine dialogue of cultures, understood as mutual enrichment of cultural and moral values, coupled with a joint analysis, identification and discussion of destructive values. On this path, it is possible to solve not only the problems of information security, but also many socio-cultural, political and other problems of the modern world.

The text examines current cybersecurity issues in the modern world, focusing on the rise of cyber threats and identifying their general and specific aspects. Among the primary threats highlighted are cyber-attacks, cyber espionage, and cyber terrorism, which can lead to significant consequences for economic activities, infrastructure, and national security. It is noted that the increasing volume of personal information in the global cyberspace poses a threat of misuse. To effectively counter these threats, the author recommends a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity. This includes the necessity of a systematic and continuous approach to protection, regular updates of software and hardware, the use of strong passwords and two-factor authentication, conducting regular security audits, and protection against phishing and internal threats. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of collaboration, information exchange, and education as effective means to combat cyber threats. Overall, the text underscores that ensuring cybersecurity requires not only technical measures but also cultural changes, collaboration, and education to guarantee reliable protection in a world where cyber threats continually grow in complexity and scale.

The theses present the problem of personality socialization in virtual space. The author defines the concept of virtual reality and its features in the context of socialization of the individual. In particular, he notes that virtual reality is a heterogeneous environment, with various tools, platforms and visual forms, which significantly diversifies the behavior and enthusiasm of an individual in the network. The virtual environment has its own characteristics. The author notes the peculiarities of the virtual environment, namely: the language, the system of signs and symbols, the rules and norms of communication, the social hierarchy of the participants or the lack thereof. Virtual reality appears as another valuable and meaningful environment that regulates human actions, forms new algorithms and challenges. Socialization, which occurs through multifaceted interaction, contributes to the development of personality in accordance with the requirements of the modern man-made world. The author hypothesizes that in virtual reality human values acquire recombination. Virtual space not only allows you to play social roles, but also to search for yourself in the world.

Among the users of this network, there are groups of people or individuals who deliberately spread false or distorted information. That is why the question of determining the legal regime of fakes in Ukraine is gaining considerable relevance. Fakes, or unreliable information, seriously affect public opinion, political processes, and the stability of Ukrainian society as a whole.

The unconcealed armed aggression of the Russian Federation against the state of Ukraine, starting from 2014 and until now, is accompanied by the active use of various forms and methods of spreading disinformation whose main purpose is to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine, reduce trust in the Ukrainian authorities, promote the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and disunite Ukrainian society. Accordingly, countering disinformation in the context of Russian aggression is an extremely important task that must be carried out in a complex manner and include the following measures: 1) strengthening the population’s media literacy (people must be able to critically evaluate the information they receive from various sources); 2) introduction of effective mechanisms for monitoring and combating disinformation; 3) increased responsibility for spreading disinformation under martial law.

The meaning in the modern conditions of the media space has been studied. It was determined that the media space should promote media literacy, form an aesthetic worldview, knowledge of the surrounding world in its intellectual, social, artistic, moral, and psychological aspects. It has been proven that the implementation of the discourse still needs some improvement and dissemination in various media. It was determined that the first steps of implementation are being made in all types of media. It is proved that among the important points, the main goal of all the analyzed discourses is the consolidation of the entire nation around a common goal – the reconstruction of quality life in Ukraine. It was determined that each journalistic material reveals important topical issues that concern both the present and the future of Ukraine. It is highlighted that through such a discourse, journalists together with experts try to provide information, clarify a problematic issue, find a solution, help the audience to form the right opinion based on the objective coverage of positions.

The Russian Federation uses a variety of tactics and platforms to spread disinformation in the EU. The purpose of this information is to undermine support for Ukraine, justify Russian aggression and conceal war crimes. The article substantiates its claims with examples of disinformation campaigns and statistics from EU media and research centers. The facts presented in the article are evidence that Russian disinformation poses a significant threat to the EU and its citizens, potentially weakening EU solidarity and resilience, distorting public discourse and manipulating public sentiment. Increasing the effectiveness of countering Russian propaganda can be achieved by increasing funding and staffing of working groups such as East StratCom, implementing the Digital Services Act, and strengthening strategic communication and critical thinking in society.

Nowadays variety of the feasible communications is constantly increasing due to the rapid ICT development. An average person is under the pressure of massive information flows from news media, information agencies, social networks, messengers etc. regularly and this pressure has escalated since the Ukrainian war started. The study presents the results of the development of a coherent approach to processing or analysing information from different media sources by employing machine learning models and data mining techniques. The definition in the study is “an information construct” that is an information structures with the following attributes: artificial, goal-oriented, structured and perceived.
